Our recommendations for safe transactions:
We all know that there are MANY scammers on social media (and elsewhere), so we can’t stress enough that you have to be dilligent about any item, buyer, or seller prior to engaging in a purchase.
- If a listing looks like a steal, be cautious. You know the saying about “too good to be true”.
- DO NOT send ANY financial information (or social security # or bank account info) to anyone by phone or email.
- Verify the other party’s identity in the transaction.
- If you get a text message regarding “OVERPAYMENT” be VERY CAREFUL. This is a new scam.
- Avoid using an escrow service recommended by the seller.
- Be cautious and verify any “agent” claiming to represent either a buyer or seller.
- Do NOT buy from just a photo(s). View it in person, or pay for a third-party inspection to verify it.
- Do NOT send payment thru a money-transfer service… EVER. (ex: Western Union, etc.)
- When using an escrow service for payment of the transaction, verify they are reliable.
- Do not send any payment (wire, mail, other) without verifying the identity of the seller FIRST.
- VERIFY any “invoice” from any payment service (or PayPal).
- When possible, we suggest engaging a pre-inspection service to verify an item and condition.
- If an escrow service emails you a link DO NOT visit the site via that link… ALWAYS find their website and type it into the browser yourself, not through a link.
- Report any suspected fraudulent activity to support here.
